Tinsukia Pincodes

The town of Tinsukia is industrial. It is located 84 kilometres (52 mi) from the Arunachal Pradesh border and 480 kilometres (298 mi) northeast of Guwahati.The Moran Autonomous Council, the ruling body of the Morans, an indigenous tribal tribe primarily located in the Tinsukia district and bordering Arunachal Pradesh, has its headquarters at Tinsukia. 

History

In the Middle Ages, the Chutiya monarchy included the region of the Tinsukia district as a fundamental component. Following the Chutias’ defeat, the Ahoms installed Sadiya-khowa gohain as the region’s ruler. Subsequent to the Moamoria uprising, the Matak kingdom emerged to take its position. Bengmara was Tinsukia City’s previous name. Later, when Sarbananada Singha, a member of the erstwhile Chutia royal line, constructed his capital at Rangagarh on the Guijan River’s bank, it became the capital of the Motok Kingdom. He moved his capital to Bengmara in the year 1791 AD. King Sarbananda Singha, assisted by his Minister Gopinath Barbaruah, constructed Bengmara.

Geography

With its diverse geography, Tinsukia includes tea gardens, deep forests, and marshes. The district has a distinct geographical identity because it is surrounded by both Arunachal Pradesh and the Brahmaputra River. It is a centre for agricultural and tea plantations due to its abundant greenery and fertile soil.

Economy

The three main industries driving Tinsukia’s economy are coal mining, oil and natural gas extraction, and tea production. The Digboi Oil Refinery, the oldest in Asia, is located in this region. Additionally, agriculture—particularly rice farming—is essential to the regional economy.

Demography

As to the 2011 census, Tinsukia had 126,389 residents. The population was made up of 45% females and 55% men. Male literacy was 77.89% and female literacy was 63.54% in Tinsukia, with an average literacy rate of 70.15%, higher than the national average of 64.84%. The percentage of people under six was 13.29%. The 2011 census found that there are 126,389 people living in Tinisukia City. There are 40,087 speakers of Hindi, 38,452 speakers of Bengali, 24,762 speakers of Assamese, 2,194 speakers of Nepali, and 13,548 speakers of other languages.
