Sangli district, located in the state of Maharashtra, India, is a vibrant region with Sangli city serving as its administrative hub. This district is geographically characterized by its boundaries: it shares its northern border with Satara district and Solapur district, while the southeastern frontier extends to Karnataka state. History

Sangli district, originally named South Satara, came into existence in 1949. On May 1, 1960, it was officially renamed Sangli. The district comprises talukas that were once part of the old Satara District and territories formerly belonging to the Patvardhans and Dafles, which merged post-independence. Kundal, situated near Sangli, holds historical significance as it served as the capital of the Chalukyas. This ancient village, dating back around 1,600 years, also holds significance as a prominent Jain pilgrimage site, adding to its cultural and historical importance within the region’s rich heritage.
