Narsinghpur district, sometimes referred to as Narsimhapur district, is situated in the central part of Madhya Pradesh, India. Its northern boundary is marked by the Vindhyachal region, while the entire southern border is defined by the Satpura Range. To the north, the Narmada river flows from east to west. History:

During the ancient Satavahana period, this region was part of a flourishing trade network. It witnessed the rise and fall of various dynasties, contributing to its cultural heritage.

In medieval times, it came under the rule of the Gond dynasty, who had their capital in Narsinghpur. The Gonds played a significant role in shaping the district’s history.

In the 18th century, the Marathas asserted their dominance over the region, and Narsinghpur became a part of the Maratha Empire.

In the early 19th century, the British East India Company took control of Narsinghpur, as it expanded its influence in India.

During the Indian independence movement in the 20th century, Narsinghpur, like other parts of India, witnessed various social and political movements that contributed to the country’s struggle for freedom.

In the 1940s, the district played its role in the fight for independence, and it eventually became a part of the newly independent India in 1947.

Narsinghpur district, located in the Jabalpur Division, covers an area of 5,125.55 square kilometers and shares its borders with several neighboring districts. It is situated in the basin of the Narmada River, with the Vindhya Range to the north and the Satpura Range to the south. The district’s administrative headquarters is Narsinghpur, serving as a central hub in this geographically diverse region. It is bordered by Sagar and Damoh districts to the north, Jabalpur District to the east, Seoni District to the southeast, Chhindwara District to the south, Hoshangabad District to the west, and Raisen District to the northwest. This unique geographical location contributes to the district’s natural beauty and cultural diversity.

In the 2011 census, Narsinghpur District had a population of 1,091,854, making it the 418th most populated district in India out of 640. The district has a population density of 213 people per square kilometer. The sex ratio in Narsinghpur is 917 females for every 1000 males, and the literacy rate is 76.79%. About 18.64% of the population lives in urban areas. The primary language spoken by 99.06% of the population is Hindi.
