Bardhaman Pincodes

West Bengal’s Bardhaman District (sometimes written Burdwan, Barddhaman, or Vardhaman) was a district. The district was divided into Purba Bardhaman and Paschim Bardhaman districts on April 7, 2017. Bardhaman, the district center, was home to the cities of Durgapur and Asansol. Rashbehari Bose, an Indian revolutionary, was born in the Bardhaman district’s Subaldaha hamlet. Poets Kazi Nazrul Islam and Kumud Ranjan Mullick were born in the same district of Churulia and Kogram, respectively. The former Bardhaman district was also the birthplace of notable individuals like Prabhat Kumar Mukhopadhyay, Akshay Kumar Datta, and Jatindranath Sengupta. At the time of the bifurcation, it ranked eighth in terms of population in India.

History

This location was known as the district capital, or Badh-e-dewan, during the reign of Jahangir. With a rent-roll of over 300,000, the Maharajas of Burdwan were the leading noblemen of lower Bengal, and the city owes them their historical significance as their headquarters. Sangam Rai, a Hindu Khatri family from Kotli in Lahore, Punjab, whose descendants in turn served the Mughal Emperors and the British administration, formed Bardhaman Raj in 1657. In 1855, the East Indian Railway began service from Howrah. Maharaja Mahtab Chand’s exceptional leadership was responsible for the enormous prosperity of the raj (died 1879)

Geography

The area is 40 meters (131 feet) above sea level on average. The Grand Trunk Road (National Highway 19) and Eastern Railway lead to the city, which is located 1100 km from New Delhi and somewhat less than 100 miles northwest of Kolkata. The two main rivers are the Banka and the Damodar. A copper plate from the sixth century AD that was discovered in Mallasarul hamlet, behind the Galsi Police Station, has the first known epigraphic reference to the name of this location. Based on archeological data, it is possible to date this region, which makes up a significant portion of Radh Bengal, back to 4000 BCE.

Culture

Bardhaman is from a multicultural background. This location features deuls, or rekha-style temples, which are evocative of Bengali Hindu architecture. Hinduism is seen in the ancient temples, which are mostly the property of Sakta and Vaishnava adherents. The city of Bardhaman is also home to the Kankaleswari Kali. Bardhaman endured and overcame multiple violent confrontations brought on by invasions by the Mughals, Pashtuns, and Maratha tribes. Notable members of the Delhi Sultanate, such as Raja Todarmal, Daud Karnani, Sher Afghan, Kutub-ud-din, Ajimuswan, and the future Mughal emperor Shah Jahan during his rebel years, all paid visits to the city of Bardhaman.

Demography

The population of Bardhaman district, as of the 2011 census, is 7,723,663, or about the same as that of the US state of Virginia or the nation of Switzerland. As a result, it is ranked seventh in India. There are 1,100 people living in the district per square kilometer (2,800/sq mi). Over the period of 2001 to 2011, its population grew at a pace of 12.01%. Barddhaman has a 77.15% literacy rate and a sex ratio of 943 females for every 1000 males.

Climate

The average temperature is 20 C in the winter and 30 C in the summer. 1496 mm of rain falls on average. Beginning about the middle of November and lasting through the end of February is the cold season. Dry summer weather is interrupted by tropical cyclones and storms from March to May. Wet summer lasts from June to September, and autumn occurs in October and November.
