West Medinipur Pincodes

One of the districts of the Indian state of West Bengal is Paschim Medinipur district. Following the division of Midnapore into Paschim Medinipur and Purba Medinipur, it was established on January 1, 2002. The Jhargram subdivision was transformed into a district on April 4, 2017. The West Midnapore district has a GDP of USD 12 billion.

Geography

Located in the southwest region of West Bengal, Paschim Medinipur was formed on January 1, 2002, when the previous Midnapore district which at the time was India’s largest district was divided. It is the second-largest district in the state in terms of area (9,295.28 sq km), after South 24-Parganas (9,960 sq km). With 4.58 million rural residents, it is ranked third in terms of population, behind South 24-Parganas (5.82 million) and Murshidabad (5.13 million). In 2011, it came in fourth after Jalpaiguri (18.87), Purulia (18.27), and Dakshin Dinajpur (16.12) in terms of the percentage of tribal people.

Economy

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj listed Paschim Medinipur as one of the 250 most backward districts in the nation in 2006. The district in question is one of the eleven in West Bengal that is presently getting funding from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Program (BRGF). The Red Corridor is made up of 106 districts spread over 10 states in India that are thought to be involved in left-wing extremist activity. The Red Corridor includes the West Bengal districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Purulia, and Birbhum.

Administration

Three subdivisions make up the district: Ghatal, Medinipur Sadar, and Kharagpur. Ten community development blocks (Dantan–I, Dantan–II, Pingla, Kharagpur–I, Kharagpur–II, Sabang, Mohanpur, Narayangarh, Keshiari, and Debra) and the Kharagpur municipality make up the Kharagpur subdivision. The six community development blocks that make up the Medinipur Sadar subdivision include Keshpur, Shalboni, Garhbeta–I, II, and III, as well as the Midnapore municipality. The Ghatal subdivision is made up of five community development blocks (Chandrakona-I, Chandrakona-II, Daspur-I, Daspur-II, and Ghatal) and five municipalities (Ramjibanpur, Chandrakona, Khirpai, Kharar, and Ghatal).

Demography

The Paschim Medinipur district has 5,913,457 residents, approximately equivalent to the population of the US state of Missouri or the country of Eritrea, according to the 2011 census. The population density of the district is 636 people per square kilometer, or 1,650 people per square mile. From 2001 to 2011, the population grew at a pace of 14.44%. In Paschim Medinipur, there are 960 girls for every 1000 males and a 79.04% literacy rate. There were 4,776,909 people living in the district after it was split, with 655,250 (13.72%) of them residing in cities.
