Aligarh Pincodes

India’s state of Uttar Pradesh contains the city of Aligarh. Located roughly 130 kilometers (81 miles) southeast of the state capital, New Delhi, and 342 kilometers (213 miles) northwest of Lucknow, the district administrative center of Aligarh is located. Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Sambhal, Badaun, Kasganj, Hathras, Etah, and Mathura are the cities and districts that border Aligarh. Aligarh is the 53rd most populous city in India as of 2011. Aligarh’s history is first documented in the twelfth century, when it was known as Kol. Kol was a significant city that served as the political and commercial hub of the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire.

History

Written accounts of the city only date back to the 12th century, but archeological findings indicate that Jains may have once lived in the town. In the twelfth century, the Dor Rajputs ruled over the region that would become Aligarh prior to the Ghurid conquest. Aibak Qutb-ud-din successfully invaded the area in 1194, and Hisam-ud-din Ulbak was sworn in as the first Muslim governor. Kol was described as “one of the most celebrated fortresses of Hind” by court historian Hasan Nizami.

Administration

The five tehsils that make up the Aligarh district are Kol Tehsil, Khair Tehsil, Atrauli, Gabhana, and Iglas. Twelve blocks are created by further dividing these tehsils. Nagar Nigam Aligarh (Municipal Corporation) is in charge of running the city and is accountable to the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner (PCS Officer) for civic administrative duties. The Aligarh Development Authority (ADA), led by the Divisional Commissioner (chairman) and vice-chairman (PCS Officer), is responsible for the city’s infrastructure development.

Demography

There are 874,408 people living in Aligarh as of the 2011 Census, with 461,636 women and 461,772 men. There are 119,543 people in the age range of 0–6 years. The overall literacy rate is 59.15%, with 63.42% of men and 54.37% of women being literate. The effective literacy rate for Aligarh’s population aged 7 and above was 68.5%; the rate for men was 62.9%, and the rate for women was 70.8%.

Geography

The coordinates of Aligarh are 27.88°N 78.08°E. It is situated at an approximate elevation of 587 feet (178 meters). The city is located in the center of the doab, which is the area between the Yamuna and Ganges rivers. The Grand Trunk Road, which is 134 km from India’s capital, passes through it via NH-91.

Climate

April marks the beginning of the hot summer, which peaks in May. The typical temperature spans from 28 to 38 °C (82 to 100 °F). With high humidity, the monsoon season begins in late June and lasts until early October. During these months, Aligarh receives the majority of its 800 millimetres (31 in) of annual rainfall. After that, the temperature drops, and winter arrives in December and lasts through February. The range of temperatures is 2 to 11 °C (36 to 52 °F). Although Aligarh’s winters are usually mild, the lowest recorded temperature of 1 °C in 2011–12.

Economy

The city serves as a hub for trade in agriculture. Processing and manufacturing of agricultural products are significant. The state capital of Uttar Pradesh, Aligarh is best known for its lock industry and is a major business hub. All over the world, Aligarh locks are exported. Johnson & Co. was the first English lock company in Aligarh, established in 1870. The company started small-scale lock production here in 1890. Aligarh is well-known for its sculpture and brass hardware. Thousands of producers, exporters, and suppliers in the brass, bronze, iron, and aluminum sectors are based in the city today.
