History
Ancient Khokhrakot’s clay coin mounds reveal India’s coin casting methods. Yaudheya coin molds from 3rd-4th century AD and Gupta artifacts surfaced here. Around the 9th century AD, Rohtak thrived, adorned by Jain deity Parshvanatha and Dharanendra. A 7th-century Parshvanatha statue was found in Asthal Bohar. Prosperous till the 10th century under King Samanta Deva, Rohtak fell to Mahmud of Ghazni. Ain-i-Akbari lists it as a Mughal pargana under Delhi sarkar, boasting revenue and a brick fort. Vipakasutra mentions it as Vesamanadatta and Pusyanandi’s kingdom. Later, Chahamanas ruled this historic city region, weaving a rich tapestry of Rohtak’s cultural legacy.

Rohtak, the sixth most populous city in Haryana, boasts a population of 373,133 according to the provisional 2011 census.
