About Ambattur

Ambattur is a neighborhood in Chennai, India’s northwest. It is surrounded by Avadi, Anna Nagar, Padi, Mogappair, Kallikuppam, Surapet, Korattur, Ayappakkam, Athipet, and Thiruverkadu. It is situated in the Ambattur taluk of the Chennai District. It has a 45 km³ (sq mi) coverage. The Chennai Suburban Railway’s Ambattur railway station serves the neighborhood. Ambattur got its name from a settlement of the same name that is now situated across from the Ambattur phone exchange. Ambattur was a community with vast tracts of arable land that the once-sprawling Ambattur Lake provided irrigation for.


Ambattur, along with Avadi, Sembium, Ennore, and Tiruvottriyur, is a section of the “auto belt” in the industrial north and west of the city, which emerged in the early post-World War II years of Madras when the automobile industry began to flourish. The TI factory and TII complex were established in the United Kingdom thanks in large part to Sir Ivan Stedeford, chairman of Tube Investments. A. M.
