Beed district, situated in the Indian state of Maharashtra, serves as an important administrative region. Its administrative hub is the city of Beed itself. Covering a sprawling expanse of 10,693 square kilometers, the district is home to a diverse population of 2,585,049 residents, with approximately 17.91% residing in urban areas, as per the 2011 census data. History

Beed district boasts a rich historical legacy, adorned with the footprints of numerous dynasties and rulers. In antiquity, it was known as Bhir, a name that still resonates through time. The city proudly preserves remnants of its glorious past, evident in ancient entry doors, locally known as “Ves” or “Darwaza,” and protective city walls. Until May 1, 1960, this region was part of the Nizam Princely State in Marathwada. However, after a fierce struggle between the Indian Government and Nizam soldiers, known as the Razakars, it was integrated into the Indian Republic. The name “Bhir” was bestowed upon it by Mohammad Tughlaq, encapsulating its enduring historical significance.
