During the 7th century, Bhandara district became a part of the Haihaya Yadav kingdom of Chhattisgarh, known as Maha Kosala. Its name, ‘Bhannara,’ can be traced back to an 11th-century stone inscription at Ratanpur. Originally, it was under the rule of the Haihaya Rajput kings of Chhattisgarh. In the 12th century, control shifted to the Panwar Rajputs, succeeded by the Gond chiefs. This historical transition shaped Bhandara’s cultural and political landscape, leaving a lasting imprint on its heritage.
