Bishnupur, formerly known as Lumlangdong (now Lamangdong), boasts a rich history with documented origins. In 1467 A.D., upon Kyamba’s accession to the throne of Manipur, he achieved a significant conquest by defeating the Shan kingdom of Kyang in the Kabow Valley. In commemoration of this triumph, he adopted the name “Kyamba,” signifying the conqueror of Kyang.
