Chamrajnagar Pincodes

Chamarajanagar, also called Chamarajanagara, is the southernmost district in Karnataka, India. It was created in 1998 by dividing the larger Mysore District. The main town, Chamarajanagar, serves as the district’s headquarters.

This district has fewer people compared to most others in Karnataka. In fact, it’s the third least populated district in the state, with only Kodagu and Bangalore Rural having fewer residents.

History:

Chamarajanagar used to be called Sri Arikottara. It got its new name from Chamaraja Wodeyar, who was born here and became the ruler of Mysuru. In 1117 AD, a Jain temple called the Vijaya Parsvanath Basadi was built by Punisadandanayaka, who served as the commander of the Hoysala king Gangaraja.

Geography:

Chamarajanagar district is at the very bottom of Karnataka, and it shares its borders with Tamil Nadu and Kerala. To the west and north, it touches the Mysore district of Karnataka, and to the northeast, it borders Mandya and Ramanagara districts of Karnataka. On the eastern side, it touches Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts of Tamil Nadu, and further southeast, it’s near Salem. Going even more south, it’s close to Erode and Nilgiris districts of Tamil Nadu. In the far southwest, there’s a tiny border with Wayanad district in Kerala.

Most of this district doesn’t get a lot of rain and is in the shadow of the Nilgiris hills. It has flatlands that depend on rain for water, and there are also forested hills in the area.

Economy:

The government of the province has begun a big project on a piece of land that’s 1,595 acres in size. They’re calling it the Badanaguppe-Kellamballi Industrial Estate. This place will have different kinds of industries like ones that make cars, process food, make clothes, leather products, granite things, and stuff related to farming.

A lot of companies have already set up their businesses in this industrial estate. Some of the well-known ones include KCM Appliances, Aditya Birla-Grasim Paint Plant, Kaynes Technology, and Colortone Textiles, among others.

Demographics:

As per the 2011 census, Chamarajanagar district in India had a population of 1,020,791, ranking 441st out of 640 districts. The district had a population density of 200 people per square kilometer, a sex ratio of 989 females per 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 61.43%. Approximately 17.14% of the population resided in urban areas, while the majority lived in rural regions.

The district has a lot of Scheduled Castes, about 259,000 people, which is a big part of the population, around a quarter. It also has many forests, so there are many tribal people living here, like the Nayakas, Soligas, Yeravas, Jenu Kurubas, and Betta Kurubas. These tribal people have their own languages, and there are about 120,000 of them, making up 12% of the district’s population. There are also other communities here like Lingayats, Muslims, and Vokkaligas. In the 2011 census, most people, about 86.10%, spoke Kannada as their first language. Tamil, Urdu, and Telugu were also spoken by smaller percentages of the population.
