About Dausa

Dausa, a city and administrative hub in Rajasthan, India, stands as the headquarters of the Dausa district. Positioned 55 km from Jaipur and 240 km from Delhi, it holds strategic significance. Situated along the Jaipur-Agra National Highway (NH-21), Dausa serves as a pivotal link connecting major cities. History

Before 1947, Dausa was a part of the princely state of Jaipur, ruled by the Suryavanshi Kachwaha Rajputs, situated in the region known as Dundhar. In the 10th century AD, the Chauhans also held sway over this land. Dausa became the first capital of the Dundhar Region, with Raja Sodh Dev reigning from 996 AD to 1006 AD, followed by his son, Raja Dulha Rai, who ruled from 1006 AD to 1036 AD. Notably, Dausa produced distinguished freedom fighters like Tikaram Paliwal and Ram Karan Joshi, contributing significantly to India’s independence and the formation of Rajasthan. Tikaram Paliwal later served as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan in 1952, while Ram Karan Joshi became the first Panchayati Raj Minister, presenting the inaugural Panchayati Raj Bill in the Vidhansabha in 1952.

The town held an average literacy rate of 69.17%, slightly below the national average of 74.04%, with male literacy at 84.54% and female literacy at 52.33%. About 11,042 individuals were under 6 years of age. Religious demographics comprised Hinduism (84.69%), Islam (14.11%), Jainism (0.66%), Christianity (0.16%), and Sikhism (0.15%). This reflected the diverse cultural tapestry, showcasing Hindus as the dominant religious group followed by Muslims, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, and other affiliations or non-religious identities, collectively contributing to the town’s religious fabric.
