About Debagarh Deogarh
The district of Debagarh, commonly referred to as Deogarh, is located in the Indian state of Odisha. Situated in the northwest region of the state, it is one of the thirty administrative districts, with Debagarh town serving as its capital. The district is 2781.66 km² in size. According to the 2011 Census, the district contains 312,520 residents. It is the district in Odisha with the least population as of 2011.
History
On January 1, 1994, the district was established through the division of the former Sambalpur district. There are nearly equal numbers of tribal and non-tribal residents living there. The former capital of British India’s Bamanda or Bamra princely kingdom was Deogarh. The ruler of this princely state is a member of the Gajapati emperor of Odisha’s extended royal line and is descended from the Ganga vamsi dynasty. An intelligent monarch, Raja Shri Basudeb Sudhal Deb (1869–1903) made significant contributions to the advancement of Oriya nationalism and the princely state’s conditions. He made more of an impact on literature, education, and the arts.
Geography
The “Pradhanpat” and “Kurudkut” waterfalls are two examples of ecologically balanced, biodiversity-rich areas with historical significance and a healthy environment. One of the first places in Asia to produce hydroelectricity was Kurudkut. The district is primarily made up of hills. The Deogarh Hill system can be broadly classified into four ranges. The Khajuria Range, which reaches a maximum height of 745 meters, is located in Badbar-Pragana, Deogarh Police Station, and runs from west to east. The highest point on the Pradhanpat and Kaidanta Ranges is 743 meters in the north and 816 meters in the south. The 678-meter-tall Pawri Range is located on the eastern bank of the Brahmani River.
Economy
In 2006, Debagarh was listed as one of the 250 most backward districts in the nation by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. This district is among the 19 in Odisha that have been provided with funding under the Backward Regions Grant Fund Program (BRGF). The district’s residents only engage in agriculture because there are no industries there. That is included in the Red Corridor.
Demography
The population of the Debagarh district is 312,520, or almost equal to the population of Iceland, according to the 2011 census. As a result, it is ranked 571st in India. There are 106 people living in the district per square kilometer (270/sq mi). Between 2001 and 2011, the population growth rate was 13.88%. In Debagarh, there are 976 females for every 1000 males and a 73.07% literacy rate. The percentage of people who reside in cities is 7.16%. The proportions of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to the total population are 16.67% and 35.33%, respectively.

There are several educational institutions in the area, the two most significant ones being the Govt. College in Debagarh town and Raja Basu Dev High School. The Odisha government opened a government polytechnic in Purunagarh, in the Deogarh district, in 2017. There are three engineering specialties: mining, electrical, and civil.
