History

Quila Mubarak, an ancient fort tied to Baba Farid’s era, saw Faridkot’s genesis as a princely state in 1763 under Hamir Singh. Maharaja Ranjit Singh briefly ruled from 1807 to 1809, but British intervention returned power to the Brar family. Under British rule till 1947, Faridkot remained the capital, later joining the Patiala & East Punjab States Union in 1948. On August 7, 1972, it emerged as a separate district from Bathinda and Ferozepur, including Moga and Muktsar. In November 1995, Faridkot District split as Muktsar and Moga gained independence, overseen by CM Harcharan Singh Brar of Muktsar.

Faridkot’s expanse reflects a vast, open terrain, with rivers carving its history, and irrigation canals sustaining its agrarian essence amidst the gently undulating landscape.

The Deputy Commissioner serves as the primary district officer, supported by Sub Divisional Magistrates overseeing specific divisions. Sectoral progress is overseen by department heads in agriculture, animal husbandry, health, education, and more.
