Hanumangarh, a city in Rajasthan, resides on the banks of River Ghaggar, identified as the Ancient Sarasvati river, situated about 400 km from Delhi. Serving as the administrative hub of Hanumangarh District, it was initially known as Bhatner, established by King Bhupat in 255 AD. Controlled by the Rajputs of the Bhati clan, it witnessed a pivotal siege by Timur in 1391, briefly losing the fort held by Bhati Raput king Dulachand. Later, Rao Jetsa of Bikaner claimed occupancy of the fort. Hanumangarh echoes with a rich history, marked by regal legacies and significant events shaping its cultural narrative.

History

The district boasts over 100 Indus Valley civilization sites along the Ghaggar-Hakra River, like Karanpura. Kalibangan and Pilibanga unearthed in 1951 unveiled a 5000-year-old civilization. Discoveries included human skeletons, enigmatic scripts, stamps, coins, utensils, jewelry, toys, statues, wells, baths, forts, streets, and markets. These relics, pivotal to history, are housed at the Kalibangan Museum and the National Museum, New Delhi. They offer a mesmerizing glimpse into an ancient era, showcasing a rich tapestry of life and culture, preserving the essence of a civilization that thrived millennia ago along the banks of the Sarasvati River’s ancient course.
