Acknowledged by the Indian Government as a Minority Concentrated District based on 2001 census data, it reflects a blend of diverse cultures and demographics. Encircled by Bijnor, Moradabad, and Badaun districts on its north, east, and south borders respectively, the district embraces the majestic River Ganges to the west, delineating its boundary with Bulandshahr, Hapur, and Meerut districts. History
The Battle of Jyotiba Phule Nagar, occurring on December 20, 1305, saw Alauddin Khilji emerge victorious against the Mongols. Originally part of Delhi’s Sambhal sarkar under the Mughals, this area later fell under Awadh’s jurisdiction. In 1801, the Nawab of Awadh relinquished control to the British East India Company. Fast forward to April 24, 1997, when the district was formed by separating Amroha, Dhanora, and Hasanpur from the Moradabad district. Then, in 2012, it was renamed from Jyotiba Phule Nagar to Amroha district, marking its historical evolution and changes in governance over time.

As per the 2011 census, Jyotiba Phule Nagar District boasts a population of 1,840,221, akin to Kosovo or the US state of Nebraska. Ranking 258th in India among 640 districts, it exhibits a population density of 818 inhabitants per square kilometre. Jyotiba Phule Nagar is administratively divided into four subdivisions: Sadar (Amroha), Dhanaura, Hasanpur, and Naugawan Sadat. Each subdivision encompasses various tehsils, overseen by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (S.D.M.), a class one magistrate handling general administration and assisting as an assistant collector for revenue matters. Within each tehsil, a Tehsildar leads, supported by additional Tehsildars and Nayab Tehsildars. The Tehsildar, a 2nd-class magistrate, manages the tehsil office and revenue court, focusing on dues collection, Land Records maintenance, revenue case resolution, and public welfare.
