Kandhamal Pincodes

The district of Kandhamal, commonly referred to as Phulbani, is located in the Indian state of Odisha. Phulbani is the district’s administrative center. The native turmeric known as “Kandhamal Haldi,” which is the specialty of Kandhamal, has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) designation by Intellectual Property India, an organization that operates under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (India). History

Following the split of Phulbani District into the districts of Kandhamal and Boudh in Odisha, India, the district of Kandhamal was created on January 1st, 1994. The district got its name from the well-known Kandha tribe that lives there.

Geography

The district is located between 19-34° N and 20-54° latitude, and between 83.30° E and 84-48° E longitude. Situated in the district’s center, Phulbani serves as the district headquarters. The other well-liked places are Raikia, Tikabali, G. Udayagiri, and Baliguda. The area is rural and features several hill stations, waterfalls, springs, and historical and archaeological sites. The district’s land area is made up primarily of forests (71%), with 12% of it being arable land. There is inadequate road connectivity to neighboring districts.

Demography

The population of the Kandhamal district, as of the 2011 census, is 733,110, or about the same as that of the US state of Alaska or the nation of Guyana. As a result, it is ranked 497th in India. There are 91 people living in the district per square kilometer (240/sq mi). From 2001 to 2011, the population grew at a pace of 12.92%. The sex ratio in Kandhamal is 1037 females for every 1000 males, while the country’s literacy rate is 65.12%. The percentage of people who reside in cities is 9.86%.

Agriculture

The main crop and staple meal in the Kandhamal district is rice. Apart from rice, locals have recently concentrated on horticulture, sericulture, floriculture, and other agricultural pursuits. The district is rich in wildlife and plants. The district’s deep woodlands are home to a great variety of wildflowers, including orchids. The wild also yields an abundance of mango, mahula (mahua), Indian gooseberry (amla), kendu, meswak, and jackfruit. From the Kandhamal forests, bamboo and thysanolaena, or broom grass, are harvested and either utilized or sold.

The closest airport is located 211 kilometers (131 mi) away in Bhubaneswar. Five kilometers from Phulbani town is Gudari, which has an airport for small aircraft and helicopter landings. 99 kilometers from Phulbani is the closest train station, Rairakhol, on the Sambalpur–Bhubaneshwar line. As an alternative, one can go by car to Kandhamal from Sambalpur via Boudh (170 km, 106 miles) and Berhampur (165 km), as well as from Bhubaneshwar via Nayagarh (210 km, 130 miles). Bolangir is 170 kilometers (110 miles) away.
