History

Koderma is actually not located in Jammu and Kashmir but in the state of Jharkhand, India. Apologies for the confusion in my previous response. Koderma, known as the “Mica Capital of India,” has a rich historical background. The region has been inhabited since ancient times and has witnessed various ruling powers, including the Mauryas, Guptas, and Mughals. During the British colonial period, Koderma gained prominence due to its vast mica reserves. It played a significant role in the country’s mica industry. After India gained independence, Koderma continued to flourish as a significant mica mining and trading center. It also serves as a significant agricultural region, contributing to the state’s economy.

According to the 2011 Census of India, Kodarma Nagar Parishad housed 24,633 individuals, with 12,941 males and 11,692 females. Geography

Koderma, encircled by Nawada and Gaya districts of Bihar, Giridih and Hazaribagh districts of Jharkhand, is enveloped in lush forests. Embracing Barakar, Barsoi, and Sakri rivers, it hosts Dhawajadhari Pahar, a sacred hill devoted to Lord Shiva. Nearby, Chanchal Dham, 12 km from Nawadih and 30 km from Koderma Junction, reveres Maa Chanchalni, drawing devotees for festivals like Durga Puja and Ram Navami. This district, teeming with natural wealth, treasures quartz, feldspar, asbestos, blue stone, white stone, and moonstone, once renowned as India’s mica capital. Economy

In 2006, Koderma was identified among India’s 250 most underdeveloped districts out of a total of 640. As one of Jharkhand’s 21 districts benefitting from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme, it receives crucial government funding.
