Koraput Pincodes

Koraput district is a southern Odisha district in India, with Koraput serving as its capital. Situated in the Eastern Ghats, the district is renowned for its varied and abundant mineral deposits, steep topography, and indigenous cultural and traditional practices. Situated on a crucial route linking Visakhapatnam and Raipur, the district headquarters town of Koraput and its main city, Jeypore, serve as vital hubs for trade and business in South Odisha.

Geography

The Koraput district lies between latitudes 18° 13′ and 19° 10′ north and longitudes 82° 5′ and 83° 23′ east. Its borders are shared by the districts of Rayagada, Nabarangpur, and Kalanhandi in the north; the districts of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, in the west; the district of Malkangiri, in the south; and the districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam, Andhra Pradesh, in the east. With an area of 8,807 square kilometer, it ranks third in size among the districts of Odisha, following Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj.

History

The lack of written records makes the district’s early history unclear. Because of its hilltop location, lack of access to communication, and surrounding thick forests, the region was able to maintain political isolation from the adjacent plains on both sides. The purchase of the tract by the Kingdom of Jeypore at some point in the fifteenth century is the oldest event that can be determined with absolute certainty. It was most likely governed by the Silavamsi Dynasty before this.

Climate

The district as a whole enjoys a warm, humid climate that is noticeably more comfortable than that of the rest of Odisha. 34.1 C is the mean maximum summer temperature, and 10.4 C is the mean minimum winter temperature. At certain locations at the height of winter, the temperature on the plateau at 3,000 feet is frequently substantially lower and gets very close to freezing.

Administration

The Collector, also known as the District Magistrate, is in charge of the district administration and combines the duties of revenue collection, upholding law and order, and carrying out development programs in his office. An Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and two Sub Collectors/Sub Divisional Magistrates assigned to Koraput and Jeypore, respectively, support him at headquarters. The district is split into 14 Blocks below the subdivision level, which coincide with Tahsils.

Demography

The population of Koraput district, as of the 2011 census, is 1,379,647, or about the same as that of the US state of Hawaii or the nation of Eswatini. As a result, it is ranked 356th in India. There are 156 people living in the district per square kilometer (400/sq mi). From 2001 to 2011, the population grew at a pace of 16.63%. The sex ratio of Koraput is 1031 females for every 1000 males, which is substantially higher than the 940 national average.

Transport

Transport in Koraput is reliant on a few trunk roads that ascend the Eastern Ghats’ passes due to the region’s mountainous topography. Near Vizianagaram, National Highway 16 splits off to become National Highway 26. It enters the region before Sunki and, near Ralegada, ascends to around 3500 feet over several steep turns. Next, it falls onto a plateau rising to a height of 3,000 feet, passing through Pottangi and Kunduli before coming to an alternative route that leads to Vishakhapatnam via Araku near Similiguda.
