About Amreli
Amreli is both a city and a municipality located in the Amreli district of the Indian state of Gujarat.
History:
Originally known as Anumanji, Amlik, and then Amravati, Amreli, dating back to 534 AD, was once called Amarvalli. Notable for its ancient Nagnath temple and the historical names Amarpalli and Girvanvalli, the city has remnants like memorial stones and old temples, including Kamnath and Trimbaknath. Inhabited areas in the 18th century included Juni Amreli, with Juna Kot and Juna Masjid from this era. Modern Amreli emerged around 1793 when refugees from Chital settled here. Initially under the Gaekwad of Vadodara, it saw significant development under Vithalrao Devaji. After Indian independence, Amreli became part of Gujarat in 1960.

According to the 2001 India census, Amreli had a population of 90,243, with males making up 52% and females 48%. The city’s average literacy rate was 78%, surpassing the national average of 59.5%, with male literacy at 55% and female literacy at 45%. The area of Amreli is 6,760 km². The district’s population stood at 1,514,000, with the city’s population at 275,000. Male literacy was notably higher at 81.82%, compared to female literacy at 66.97%. Amreli serves as the district headquarters, encompassing 11 talukas and 595 villages.
