About Begusarai

Begusarai holds the title of being Bihar’s industrial hub and economic center. It’s also the main office for the Begusarai district, which is one of the 38 districts in Bihar. Additionally, this district is situated on the north side of the Ganges river, within India’s Mithila area.

Geography:

Begusarai sits around 41 meters above sea level. It’s in the northern part of Bihar and has neighbors: Khagaria to the northeast, Munger to the southeast, Patna to the west, and Samastipur to the northwest.

Begusarai is situated in the center of the mid-Ganga plain and the land is mostly flat, gently sloping from south to southeast. Essentially, there are three main floodplain areas in Begusarai: the one created by the Ganges river, another by the Burhi Gandak river, and the third by the Kareha-Bagmati rivers.

In 1989, the Begusarai district welcomed the Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary, known as Kanwar jheel, covering an area of 63 square kilometers.

Demographics:

According to the 2011 census, the population of Begusarai Municipal Corporation was 251,136. Out of this, there were 133,931 males and 117,205 females, with a sex ratio of 875 females for every 1,000 males. There were 37,966 children under the age of five. For those aged seven and older, the literacy rate was 79.35%.
