About Dahod

Dahod district, located in the western Indian state of Gujarat, is primarily inhabited by tribal communities. The area is dominated by forests and hills, giving it a unique landscape.

History:

Aurangzeb, a historical figure, was born in Dahod in 1648. Before India became independent in 1948, the area of Dahod district was a part of the Sunth princely state. In 1913, during October and November, villages in Dahod were attacked by the Bhil community led by Govindgiri, who were based in the nearby Mangarh Hills to the northeast.

Geography:

Dahod is in eastern Gujarat and is at the meeting point of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. It is surrounded by Rajasthan in the north, Madhya Pradesh in the east, Chhota Udaipur district in the south, Panchmahal district in the west, and Mahisagar district in the north. The district features a mix of scrubland in the west and hilly areas in the east, with forests covering these regions. Several rivers, including the Panam, Khan, Kalutari, Machhan, and Anas, flow through Dahod. These rivers are smaller branches of the larger Mahi River.

As of the 2011 census, Dahod District had a population of about 2.13 million, similar to the country of Namibia or the U.S. state of New Mexico. It ranked as the 215th most populous out of 640 districts in India. The district had a population density of 582 people per square kilometer. There were 986 females for every 1000 males, and the literacy rate was 60.6%. About 9% of the population lived in urban areas. In terms of language, 96.29% of people spoke Gujarati, 2.14% spoke Bhili, and 1.18% spoke Hindi as their primary language.
