About Dantewada
Dantewada District is a district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is sometimes referred to as Dantewara District, Dakshin Bastar District, or South Bastar District. The district office is located at Dantewada. The district lies within the division of Bastar. Dantewada District was a tehsil of the bigger Bastar District until 1998. After Narayanpur and Bijapur, it is the third-least populated district in Chhattisgarh as of 2011.
History
The area was a part of the princely state of Bastar prior to Indian independence. Following India’s independence in 1947, the king of Bastar submitted to the Indian government, and the former state was incorporated into the Madhya Pradesh state’s Bastar District. In 1998, the Bastar District was split up into the districts of Dantewada, Kanker, and Bastar. Dantewada was one of the sixteen districts of Madhya Pradesh that made up the new state of Chhattisgarh in 2000. When Dantewada was split in 2007, Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, was created. It has four tehsils: Bijapur, Bhairamgarh, Usoor, and Bhopalpatnam. In 2012, it underwent additional bifurcation, giving rise to a new district called Sukma, including three tehsils: Chhindgarh, Sukma, and Konta.
Geography
The total area of the Dantewada District is 3,410.50 km². With its many brooks, rivers, valleys, and forests, as well as its mountainous paths, Dantewada is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, bison, tigers, and leopards. The wild Asian water buffalo and the pahadi maina are two species that are unique to the region. The culture of Dantewada District is a distinctive fusion of Telugu, Marathi, Oriya, Chhattisgarhi, and tribal elements.
Demography
The population of the undivided Dantewada district, as of the 2011 census, was 533,638; this is approximately equivalent to the population of Cape Verde. As a result, it is ranked 540th in India. There are 45 people living in the district per square kilometre (120/sq mi). From 2001 to 2011, the population grew at a pace of 15.56%. Dantewada has a 42.27% literacy rate and a sex ratio of 1016 females for every 1000 males.
Economy
The two main industries driving Dantewada’s economy are mining and agriculture. Pulses, rice, and maize are the principal crops farmed here. However, the Naxalite-Maoist insurgency has hindered the region’s development, impacting security and infrastructure growth. In order to solve these issues and advance sustainable development, efforts have been made recently, with an emphasis on infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.
