Located in the Durg-Bhilai urban agglomeration, Durg is a city situated east of the Shivnath River in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Durg-Bhilai is the second most populous urban area in Chhattisgarh, behind Raipur, with 1,064,077 residents. It serves as Durg District’s headquarters. One of the most populous districts in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh is Durg district. The state of Chhattisgarh is split into three agroclimatic zones based on topography and climate. History

A man by the name of Jagpal, who came from Badhal Desh in Mirzapur and later served as the Kalachuri monarch of Chhattisgarh’s treasury officer, created the town in the tenth century. For his outstanding achievements, he was granted a land grant by Durg that included 700 villages. He later played a significant role in aiding the Kalachuri monarch in his conquests. “Shiva Durg” was the town’s original name, which means “fort on the Shivnath River.” One of the eighteen Garhs, or regions, ruled by the Kalachuri monarchs of the Middle Ages, had its headquarters in Durg, a fort.

Geography

The eastern border of Durg is formed by the Shivnath River. Chhattisgarh’s central area is where Durg is situated. With the exception of a few isolated steep spots, the district is mostly level. Agriculture makes up a significant part of the local economy and is appropriate for this area. A wide range of crops thrive in the tropical climate, which has distinct wet and dry seasons.

Economy

One of Chhattisgarh’s most industrially advanced districts is Durg. It is well-known for having steel plants, the most notable of which is the Bhilai Steel Plant. Demography

There were 231,182 people living in Durg as of the 2001 India census. 51% of the population is male, while 49% is female. 12.8% of people in the population are between the ages of 0 and 6. In 2001, the percentage of people aged 7 and above who were effectively literate in Durg was 82.7%. There were 1,064,077 people living in the Durg-Bhilainagar Urban Agglomeration as of the 2011 census.
