Goalpara Pincodes

The current Goalpara district was split from the former Goalpara district in 1983 to form the Goalpara Sadar subdivision and the North Salmara Civil subdivision. However, in 1989, the entire area was reconfigured, retaining only the Goalpara sub-division and the North Salmara civil sub-division, which were combined to form the newly established Bongaigaon district.

Currently, the whole Goalpara district is located on the Brahmaputra River’s south bank. With a total area of 1,824 square kilometres, the district is bordered to the south by the West and East Garo Hill districts of the state of Meghalaya, to the east by Kamrup district, to the west by Dhubri district, and to the north by the powerful Brahmaputra river.

Goalpara is organised into multiple blocks and administrative entities. The district’s management is essential to the upkeep of public services and governance.

History

Goalpara’s contribution to the Indian independence movement gives it historical significance. It took part in the 1942 Quit India Movement actively. The district participated in India’s struggle for independence and saw a variety of anti-colonial acts.

Culture

A wide variety of communities, including Assamese, Bodo, Bengali, and Nepali, coexist peacefully in Goalpara. These communities add to the district’s diverse cultural fabric. The language spoken by most residents of Goalpara is Assamese. Bengali, Rabha, and Bodo are also extensively spoken. The Bwisagu festival, a significant aspect of the Bodo community’s culture, is one of the district’s cultural events.

Economy

In Goalpara, agriculture is the main industry. The rich soil of the district is ideal for growing rice, jute, and other fruits and vegetables. The production of agriculture in Assam is greatly enhanced by these crops.

 The area is a part of Assam’s flourishing tea industry and is home to a few tea gardens.
