Previously part of Karnal and later Kurukshetra districts until November 1, 1989, it ascended to become Kaithal’s headquarters. The name Kaithal is believed to stem from Kapisthala, steeped in Hanuman lore with a revered temple dedicated to Anjani, his mother. Legend marks it as Hanuman’s birthplace, featuring the revered “Anjani Tila” temple. Vedic texts mention the Vridhakedara (Vidkyar) sanctum in Kaithal’s Vaman Puran.
