About Khagaria

Khagaria district is an administrative area in the Mithila region of Bihar, a state in India. Its main office is in the city of Khagaria. Initially, it was a subdivision of Munger District, established in 1943–44. Then, on May 10, 1981, it became a district in its own right. Khagaria is also a part of the Munger Division.

Geography:

Khagaria district covers an area of 1,486 square kilometers. It is surrounded by seven rivers: the Ganges, Kamla Balan, Koshi, Budhi Gandak, Kareh, Kali Koshi, and Bagmati. Every year, these rivers overflow and cause floods, leading to significant loss of life, property, and livestock. The Ganga River marks the southern border of the district. Khagaria has an extreme climate, with very hot summers and very cold winters. The rainy season lasts until October, bringing heavy rainfall that causes the rivers to overflow and floods most areas.

Demographics:

Based on the 2011 census, Khagaria district has 1,666,886 people, ranking it 300th among India’s 640 districts. It has a population density of 1,115 people per square kilometer. In Khagaria, there are 883 women for every 1,000 men, and 60.87% of its population can read and write. Also, 5.23% of the people live in urban areas.

During the 2011 Census in India, it was found that in Khagaria district, 29.28% of the people speak Hindi and 5.90% speak Urdu as their first language. Additionally, 64.46% of the population speaks languages that are grouped under Hindi in the census, known as Angika. Angika is the regional language of Khagaria.
