About Koriya
Koriya district, sometimes referred to as Korea district, is a district in Central India’s northwest region of the state of Chhattisgarh. Baikunthpur is the district’s administrative centre. Koriya is located in the state of Chhattisgarh’s North-West District. On May 25, 1998, the District in the State of Madhya Pradesh was established. The District of Surguja was its progenitor. The District is now a part of the Chhattisgarh State, which was established on November 1, 2000, as the New State of Chhattisgarh. The Koriya State, a historic princely state, is where the district got its name.
History
Before to the 16th century, hardly much is known about the region. The other princely state that fell inside the Koriya district was Chang Bhakar. Koriya was a princely state of the British Empire in India. The kings of Chang Bhakar and Koriya acceded to the Union of India on January 1, 1948, following Indian Independence in 1947, and both became a part of the Surguja District of Madhya Pradesh state.
Geography
Between 22°56′ and 23°48′ North and 81°56′ and 82°47′ East is where Koriya District is located. It is bordered to the north-west by the district of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, to the south by the district of Korba, and to the east by the district of Surajpur. The district covers 5977 km2, of which 59.9% is made up of forests. The area is made up of numerous hill ranges.
Demography
The population of Koriya district, as of the 2011 census, is 658,917, or about the same as that of the US state of Vermont or the republic of Montenegro. As a result, it is ranked 510th in India. There are 100 people living in the district per square kilometre (260/sq mi). Between 2001 and 2011, the population growth rate was 12.4%. Koriya has a 71.41% literacy rate and a sex ratio of 968 females for every 1000 males.
Culture
The district primarily celebrates the Karma, Saila, and Suva Dances as three community dances throughout various holidays. In Korea District, major Indian holidays like Diwali, Dashehra, and Holi are also observed. The Koriyan communities also celebrate other holidays, like Ganga Dashera, Charta, Nuakhai, and Surhul, which are very significant.
