About Lakhisarai District

Lakhisarai district is among the thirty-eight districts in Bihar, India, with its administrative center in Lakhisarai town. It falls under the Munger Division. Covering an area of 1,228 square kilometers, the district spans a considerable size.

History:

Lakhisarai district was formed on July 3, 1994, by separating from Munger district. It originally included the area that was once the Lakhisarai sub-division in the undivided Munger district.

Lakhisarai district covers an area of 1,228 square kilometers.

Demographics:

Based on the 2011 census, Lakhisarai district is home to 1,000,912 people, placing it 445th among India’s 640 districts. The district has a population density of 815 people per square kilometer. In Lakhisarai, there are 900 women for every 1,000 men, and 64.95% of its population can read and write. Additionally, 14.29% of the people live in urban areas.

During the 2011 Census in India, it was found that in Lakhisarai district, 21.17% of the people speak Magahi and 29.09% speak Hindi as their first language, while 1.73% speak Urdu. Additionally, 46.96% are listed as Angika speakers, but this language is categorized under Hindi in the census. The main languages in the district are Magahi and Angika, although both are officially considered as Hindi in census records.

Administration:

The district has just one sub-division, Lakhisarai, and this is divided into seven developmental blocks. These blocks are Lakhisarai, Surajgarha, Barahiya, Halsi, Pipariya, Ramgarh Chowk, and Chanan.

Lakhisarai, the district headquarters, is a city with a diverse population. Currently undergoing development, the city recently added a new PCC road and a bypass to ease traffic congestion. Lakhisarai is also well-known for its production of sindur (vermilion).
