Mahesana Pincodes

Mahesana, also spelled Mehsana, is a city in the Mahesana district of Gujarat, India. It has a history dating back to the 14th century and was ruled by the Gaekwads of Baroda State from the 18th century until India gained independence in 1947. The city established its municipal government in 1919–20 and currently has a population of around 185,000 people. Mahesana is known for industries like dairy, oil, and natural gas, and it’s also home to many small and medium-sized businesses.

History:

In 1358 AD, a person named Mehsaji Chavda, belonging to the Chavda dynasty, is said to have established the town of Mahesana. He built an arc gate called “Torana” and a temple for Goddess Toran. Another story suggests that Mehsaji founded the town in 1319 AD. In both stories, the town is named after Mehsaji. These tales indicate that Mahesana has an ancient history, likely during the Rajput period.

In 1721, the Gaekwads took control of Baroda and expanded their rule in North Gujarat, including Mahesana. They made Patan the administrative center but later moved it to Kadi and eventually to Mahesana in 1902 after connecting the city with the Gaekwar’s Baroda State Railway.

Sayajirao Gaekwad III built the Rajmahal Palace in 1904. After India gained independence in 1947, Baroda State merged with India and became part of Bombay State, including Mahesana. In 1960, when Bombay State was divided into Gujarat and Maharashtra, Mahesana became a part of Gujarat and is now the headquarters of Mahesana district in North Gujarat.

Geography:

Mahesana is situated about 375 feet (114 meters) above sea level. The town is divided into two parts by the Ahmedabad-Palanpur Railway line. The eastern part is called Mahesana -1, and the western part is known as Mahesana -2.

Administration:

The Mahesana Municipality, also known as Nagar Palika, was set up in 1919–20. After Baroda state joined Bombay State on August 1, 1949, it followed the rules of the Bombay District Municipal Act from 1902. Starting from January 1, 1956, it has been following the Gujarat Nagar Palika Act from 1963. Mahesana is part of the Mahesana Metropolitan Region.

Demographics:

As of the 2011 India census, Mahesana had a population of 184,991. Out of this, 97,440 were male, and 87,551 were female. In the urban area, which includes nearby places, the population was 190,753, with 100,558 males and 90,195 females. The ratio of females to males was 894 females for every 1,000 males. Mahesana had a good literacy rate of 84.26%, which is higher than the national average. Among males, 91.88% were literate, while among females, 76.12% were literate.
