About Panchkula District

Panchkula, nestled in Haryana, India, is both a planned city and district headquarters within the Panchkula district. Bordering Punjab, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh, its name derives from the convergence of five irrigation canals. Akin to Chandigarh, Mohali, and Zirakpur, it’s an integral part of the surrounding area. Situated around 4 km southeast of Chandigarh and 105 km southwest of Shimla, it’s a pivotal hub, 44 km from Ambala and 259 km from New Delhi. History

Panchkula, named after its village on the Ambala Kalka highway, burgeoned in the 1970s, envisioned as Haryana’s capital. Ramgarh Fort, originating 360 years ago in Kahlur State, offered refuge to Guru Gobind Singh after the Battle of Bhangani. Once under Sirmur State, it regained independence in 1804, now a heritage hotel under King Bilaspur’s descendants. The revered Mata Mansa Devi Mandir, sprawling across 100 acres, honors Shakti and houses seven goddesses. Thousands flock, surging during Navratra mela, venerating Mata Mansa Devi and other deities from across India during the auspicious nine-day festival.
