About Rewari District

Rewari, nestled in Rewari district, Haryana, serves as the district headquarters. Positioned in the south-west, approximately 82 km from Delhi and 51 km from Gurgaon, this city holds significance in the Ahirwal region. History

Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, raised in present-day Rewari, revolutionized the region. He pioneered a cannon foundry, igniting the brass and copper industry’s genesis. Supplying artillery to Sher Shah Suri, he ascended as advisor to Adil Shah Suri, ultimately becoming Prime Minister and Chief of Army. Conquering 22 battles from Punjab to Delhi during 1553–56, he triumphed against Akbar’s forces in Agra and Delhi. Crowned Vikramaditya king at Purana Quila, he briefly reigned Delhi but succumbed to Akbar at Panipat in 1556. His haveli in Qutubpur, a village in his time, stands adorned with local stone, Aravalli range materials, and intricate regional architecture, echoing an era of valor and heritage.

Demography

By 2011, Rewari boasted a population of 143,021, surging from 100,946 in 2001 and 75,342 in 1991, showcasing a 42% growth from 2001-2011, compared to 34% in the preceding decade.
