About Sheohar District

Sheohar, also known as Shivahar, is the main city of the Sheohar district in Bihar, India. It sits 31.06 kilometers northwest of Kasba Mehsi in Mehsi. The city is a part of the Tirhut Division.

Geography:

Sheohar stands at an elevation of 53 meters (173 feet). The Mehsi railway station, 13 kilometers away in East Champaran district and adjacent to Mehsi, connects to major Indian cities. Trains like the Sapat Karanti Superfast Express to Delhi, Mithila Express to Kolkata, Lokmanya Tilak Express to Mumbai, Awadh Express, and Garib Rath serve this station. Thus, Kaswa Mehsi offers direct links to cities like Patna, Varanasi, Haridwar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Allahabad, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Amritsar, Guwahati, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Ranchi, Raipur, Nagpur, Hyderabad, and more. History:

Until the 1991 Census, the Sheohar district was part of the Sitamarhi district as a subdivision. It became a separate district on 6th October 1994, as per the Bihar Government’s Notification No. 286. Located in northern Tirhut Division, Sheohar lies at the extreme north of Bihar. It is bordered by Sitamarhi to the north and east, Muzaffarpur to the south, and Purba Champaran to the west. Sheohar is historically significant in Bihar for its population size and total area. The district includes one subdivision, Sheohar, and five Community Development Blocks: Sheohar, Piprahi, Purnahiya, Dumri Katsari, and Tariyani Chowk. Sheohar town is the only town in the district. The district encompasses 53 panchayats and 203 villages.

Demographics:

Based on the 2011 census, Sheohar has a total of 357,238 registered voters. In Sheohar district, 628,130 people live in rural areas. Of these, 331,792 are males and 296,338 are females. The sex ratio in these rural parts of Sheohar district is 893 females for every 1000 males.
