West Siang District, situated in Arunachal Pradesh, India, is flanked by China to the north, Upper Siang and Siang districts to the east, Lower Siang, Assam, and Upper Subansiri and Lower Subansiri districts to the south and west. It covers an expansive area of 8,325 sq. km, making it the second-largest district in the state by area and the fourth-largest by population. The district’s headquarters is in Aalo.

History

Historical accounts of the district’s formation trace back to 1914 when it was part of the Central and Eastern Sections, North East Frontier Track. In 1919, it was renamed the Sadiya Frontier Track and further divided into the Abor Hill District and Mishmi Hill District in 1948. The Abor Hill District became the Siang Frontier Division in 1954 and was eventually renamed the Siang District in 1965. The district’s topography is characterized by mountainous terrain, featuring rocky hills, high mountains, lush valleys, and majestic rivers, offering picturesque landscapes and diversity.
