Nadia Pincodes

India’s West Bengal state contains the district of Nadia. It shares boundaries with Bangladesh on the east, Purba Bardhaman on the west, North 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts on the south, and Murshidabad on the north. Bengal’s cultural heritage has been greatly influenced by the Nadia district. The dialect used in the Shantipur area of Nadia served as the basis for the development of the modern Bengali language in the 19th century. The birthplace of Vaishnava saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Nabadwip is referred to as the “Oxford of Bengal” and is credited with several philosophical contributions to Indian philosophy, including the Navya-Nyaya logic system. The majority of the district is still agricultural.

Geography

In the west-central Bengal region, the Nadia district is situated in the southern part of West Bengal. The area is mostly an alluvial plain that was created by the Ganges Delta’s numerous rivers constantly moving. The Bhagirathi (also known as Hooghly) river lies to the west of the district. It was formerly the primary Ganga distributary heading towards the Bay of Bengal and is still revered by Hindus as the Ganga’s continuance. The main Ganga flowed eastward into the Padma, and the Bhagirathi dried up most of the way.

History

Nabadwip, an old town in the region of Nadia, is called the Oxford of Bengal. Nabadwip is the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Great logicians of the 15th century came from Nabadwip, where the Navya Nyaya system, one of the Indian schools of logic (Tarka sastra), was founded. Under the Sena Empire’s rulers, Ballal Sen and subsequently Lakshman Sen, who ruled from 1159 to 1206, Nabadwip served as both the capital and a significant center of political authority in Bengal. Bakhtiyar Khilji took control of Nabadwip in 1202. Bengal came under Muslim hegemony thanks to this victory.

Demography

The population of the Nadia district is 5,167,600, or almost the same as the state of Colorado in the United States, according to the 2011 census. As a result, it is ranked 18th in India. The population density of the district is 1,316 people per square kilometer, or 3,410 people per square mile. From 2001 to 2011, the population grew at a pace of 12.24%. Nadia has a 75.58% literacy rate and a sex ratio of 947 females for every 1000 males.

Administration

There are four subdivisions in the district: Ranaghat, Tehatta, Kalyani, and Krishnanagar Sadar. District headquarters are in Krishnanagar. This district has 2639 villages, 187 gram panchayats (3114 sets), 11 municipalities, 19 police stations, 2 women’s, and 1 cybercrime police station, 17 community development blocks, and 11 municipalities. Every subdivision has community development blocks, which are further subdivided into census towns and rural areas, in addition to the municipality area. There are 26 urban units in all, consisting of 2 notified areas, 9 municipalities, and 15 census towns.
