Raisen Pincodes

The Raisen District, situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, has its administrative center in the town of Raisen. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Bhopal Division. Notably, the district is home to the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, the first international university of its kind, located in the town of Sanchi.

History:

The area that is now Raisen district was originally a part of the Nizamat-A-Mashrif district within the princely state of Bhopal. Following the formation of independent India’s Bhopal State, Raisen was established as an independent district on May 5, 1950.

Raisen district is notable for housing the Buddhist monuments at Sanchi, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Additionally, the Bhimbetka rock shelters, another World Heritage Site celebrated for their prehistoric significance, are also situated within the district.

Geography:

 Raisen district spans an area of 8,395 square kilometers. It is bordered by Sehore District to the west, Vidisha District to the north, Sagar District to the east and southeast, Narsimhapur District to the southeast, and both Narmadapuram and Sehore Districts to the south. The district is administratively divided into ten tehsils, namely Raisen, Goharganj, Begamganj, Gairatganj, Silwani, Bareli, Udaipura, Deori, Sultanpur, and Badi.

Demographics:

The 2011 census records Raisen District’s population at 1,331,597, ranking it 365th among India’s 640 districts. The district exhibits a population density of 157 people per square kilometer. With a sex ratio of 899 females to every 1000 males, Raisen also has a literacy rate of 74.26%. Approximately 22.79% of its population resides in urban areas. According to the same census data, 97.28% of the district’s residents primarily speak Hindi, while 1.99% speak Urdu as their first language.
