About Saiha

Siaha District, situated in the Mizoram state of India, is one of the eleven districts. Bordered by Lunglei district to the northwest, Lawngtlai District to the north and west, and Myanmar to the south and east, this district covers an area spanning 1399.9 km². Siaha town serves as the administrative hub for the Mara Autonomous District Council. Over the years, the population has declined from 60,823 in the 2001 census to 56,574 in the 2011 census, making it the least populated district among Mizoram’s eight districts.


Siaha District, previously a part of Chhimtuipui District, underwent several name changes. In 1998, when Chhimtuipui District was divided into two, the portion that later became Siaha District temporarily retained the old name, Chhimtuipui District. However, in 2016, Siaha District was officially renamed to align with the renaming of Siaha town in the preceding year. These changes reflect the evolving administrative boundaries and nomenclature in the region over the years.


Based on the 2011 census, Siaha district boasts a population of 56,574, approximately on par with the island of Greenland in terms of population size. This places it at the 628th position among all districts in India, out of a total of 640. Siaha district exhibits a population density of 40 individuals per square kilometer (100 per square mile).In terms of language diversity, Marathi was the predominant language spoken by 68.01% of the population, followed by Hindi at 9.43%, Urdu at 8.59%, Telugu at 4.86%, Marwari at 4.31%, Sindhi at 1.35%, Gujarati at 0.95%, and other languages at 2.50%.
