Renowned as the “Food Basket of Rajasthan,” the city embodies an agricultural heart, fostering bountiful produce and sustenance. Sri Ganganagar thrives not just as a geographic landmark but also as a testament to the rich cultural tapestry and the visionary legacy of its royal lineage.

History

Sri Ganganagar, established by Maharaja Ganga Singh, was initially part of Bikaner state. It’s renowned as one of India’s earliest well-planned cities, drawing inspiration from Parisian town planning. The city’s layout includes residential blocks and a commercial hub featuring the Dhan Mandi, an agricultural marketplace. Positioned at the juncture where the Sutlej enters Rajasthan, it historically belonged to Bahawalpur state before Hindu Mal, a confidant of Maharaja Ganga Singh, ingeniously shifted the boundaries due to the unguarded expanse. His journey from Suratgarh to Hindumalkot marked the city’s genesis, eventually named after his conquest.
