History

The city is located in the Braj cultural region. Noida observes April 17 as “Noida Day” in honor of the day it became an administrative city on April 17, 1976. It was established during the contentious Emergency era (1975–1977) as part of an urbanization push. Sanjay Gandhi’s activities led to the creation of the city under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. Compared to Lucknow, the city has the greatest per capita income in Uttar Pradesh. One category of special economic zone (SEZ) includes Noida. One of the wealthiest local governments in the nation is the Noida Authority.
