About Chhattisgarh

India has a state called Chhattisgarh. It became a state on November 1, 2000, making it India’s 26th state. It was formerly a part of Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Hiralal suggests that Chhattisgarh might be a corrupt version of “Chedishgarh.” This region was supposedly home to 36 forts at one point, which is why Chhattisgarh got its name. However, the name remained the same even when the number of forts increased. The Indian state of Chhattisgarh has been designated as “Mahtari” (Mother).

History

The name “Chhattisgarh” is not old; it was first used in the 18th century during the Maratha era. Chhattisgarh was formerly referred to as “Dakshin Kosal“. The state of Chhattisgarh has a long history and was formerly a part of the ancient South Kaushal. Afterwards, the ancient “Koshal” territory was split into “North Kosal” and “South Kosal.” These days, it is known as Chhattisgarh.

Geography

Orissa and Jharkhand to the northeast, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh to the south, Maharashtra state to the west, and Uttar Pradesh and the Shahdol division of Madhya Pradesh to the north are the states that border Chhattisgarh. This state is encircled by low and high mountain ranges and has lush woods.

Bamboo, Sal, Teak, Saja, and Bija trees are all abundant in this area. Here lies the majority of the Egyptian forest. The woods of Chhattisgarh also contain several enhanced teak types. The Mahanadi and its tributaries create a huge and fertile plain that stretches 322 km in length and 80 km in width in the centre of the Chhattisgarh region. This plain rises roughly 300 metres above sea level.

Economy

With large reserves of coal, iron ore, and bauxite, Chhattisgarh is one of the most resource-rich states in India. The main crop in the state is rice, and agriculture plays a major role in the state’s economy. Pulses, wheat, and maize are among the other crops.

Tourism

Historical sites and scenic natural beauties are uniquely combined in Chhattisgarh. The ancient temples of Sirpur, the Chitrakote Waterfalls—often referred to as the Niagara Falls of India—and the Bastar region, renowned for its natural beauty and tribal culture, are among the state’s top tourist destinations.
